Clifford »

Clifford is a community in the Town of Minto, in Wellington County, Ontario. Clifford is located on Highway #9 which takes summer travelers to places like Port Elgin, Southampton, and Sauble Beach. The village of Clifford was founded around 1855 as Minto Village. After the opening of the post office in 1856, the settlement was renamed Clifford by the first postmaster Francis Brown after Clifford in West Yorkshire, England. Clifford was incorporated as a village in 1873. In 1999, Clifford was amalgamated with Palmerston, Harriston and Minto Township to create The Town of Minto. The population of Clifford is more than 800 people.For a place to move to, Clifford offers many things to its residents. One can join a number of clubs and organizations. The Clifford & District Lions Club has done much to live up to its motto, ‘We Serve.’ The Rotary Club of Clifford is active in community projects as well as local events. They serve the members of their community and live by their motto, ‘Service above Self’. The Clifford & District Horticultural Society continues its service to the community. The Clifford Recreation association fosters community spirit through the promotion of leisure and recreational activities. Clifford’s Minor Hockey Association has done much to offer quality hockey at an affordable price for the youth to enjoy. There are: Pee Wee, Bantam, Atom, Tyke, Midget, and Mite teams. Other organizations include; Clifford and District Sportsmen Association, Clifford Badminton Club, Clifford Grassroots Soccer, Clifford Skating Club, Carry- On- Club, Clifford Activity Group: Cards and Coffee hour.Clifford has a variety of churches to choose from. In addition, Clifford Library carries books, large print books, books on tape and CDs, videos and DVDs, magazines, and newspapers.
